How History can be manipulated

How History can be manipulated…!

The recent event of Saddam Hussein can be regarded as a good example.

I could not believe Saddam’s execution, and more surprising never thought his ‘execution-film’ be shown to public all over the world. Simply because, I did not imagine that the new so called rulers lack of that much political maturity… To me, it was unexpected, immoral, and politically incorrect.

The overall trial was held under an Iraqi-American court that finally led to his televised execution. This indicates that there is no much difference between the former dictatorship and the new so called democracy.

His execution was unexpected, because it was between Christmas and New Year (2007), as well as, on Muslims Eid eve. This immature act itself is much capable of inflaming the anger of Islamic fundamentalists, as well as, sectarian violence both within and without Iraq.

His execution was immoral, because it was shown to public all over the world including his own family.

His execution was politically incorrect, because Saddam as a dictator took many untold facts and views with himself to the grave. His doctrine, experience, and political psychology could shed some lights about a dictator’s political life so that may help one to understand better what makes a man a dictator and why? Of course that there are some realities about him have been taken down by some, however, may not be sufficient.

Anyway, one may think that Saddam finally got his reward. But, in fact, he got his reward the moment he was kicked out from power. The greatest blow to Saddam Hussein was his overthrow from the kingdom, the severest punishment for Saddam Hussein was the killing of his sons after the invasion --- He lost his kingdom, his family, and his everything. That was his actual death and capital punishment, and not his physical execution.

In fact, his execution showed and brought nothing for Saddam himself rather was a dire punishment for his colleagues, his own family and daughters. They executed and tortured Saddam’s daughters and family, and instead released him from the invisible and horrible chains that had depressed and crazed him since the invasion. Thus, the most capital and severe punishment for Saddam was to let him to live his miserable and painstaking life in prison so long as nature could finally turn up to terminate his life.

His execution does not solve any matter in Iraq. His execution does not stop violence. Rather, his execution will make him a hero for the majority of Muslims, and will make most of them to modify, overlook or forget whatever crime he had committed against humanity… It can be a turning point in its history. This is where a history can get manipulated.

For fear of what would be revealed to the world history, reality always and every where undergoes manipulation.

It is a probable fact that Saddam may turn into a saint figure by many Sunni Muslims around the world. This might sound ironical today, but can turn into a reality tomorrow. Here is the beginning of a story, a story that slowly and gradually may transform and then form a part of Iraq’s political history.

Let’s not forget that history is a package full of emotions, appeals, practices, analysis, etc, whether wrong or right, does not matter, and what matters is its content…

An actual story in its own old time does never represent its own actual history, clearly because of the gap and interest that exist between the story and its history --- The history of every institution does not tell us its old true story, because of the interest-holders… Today, we may know who Saddam Hussein was, but, we as a next generation person, may find it difficult to read what really he was…
